Product update
Bring Précis to the Databricks environment you already run
Build on your existing Databricks data model and pipelines for financial reporting, analysis and planning. Your warehouse becomes the foundation for Précis.
Your organisation has already invested in Databricks: the financial data model, the ingestion pipelines and the controls around them. You can now build on that investment with Précis for financial reporting, analysis and planning.
Databricks support is now available across the full Précis Finance Intelligence Platform, including planning writeback, and Précis Finance MCP 0.4.0 for read-only reporting through compatible MCP clients.
For Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) teams, this creates a shorter path from an established data platform to the finance work it needs to support: the monthly P&L, the questions behind a variance and the next version of the plan.
Build on the data foundation you already have
The data model and ingestion pipelines your team already maintains become the foundation for Précis. You can use the financial inputs held in Databricks without replicating them into a separate analytical database or operating another ingestion pipeline to keep that copy current.
That reduces the integration and operating burden of adding Précis. The data team builds on its existing work, while finance gains financial statements, variance analysis, scenario modelling and reports prepared for review.
Keep your financial data in the warehouse you already govern. Précis queries Databricks for reporting and stores approved planning changes there too. Actuals and plans can support the finance workflow in the same warehouse, under your organisation’s data ownership and access controls.
What Précis adds alongside Genie
Précis gives finance consistent, approved statements, in both the figures and their presentation. The team’s agreed definitions, statement layouts, comparison columns and number formats carry through every report. Ask for a P&L, change the period or drill into a business unit, and the same financial conventions carry through the answer.
That consistency reduces the scope for errors caused by an agent interpreting a measure differently or writing a calculation incorrectly. Précis applies the agreed calculation and presents the result in the format finance expects. The team can concentrate on what the figures mean, with less reporting logic to check at every follow-up.
The conversation becomes more responsive, too. A P&L or variance breakdown that arrives in seconds lets the analyst inspect it, ask the next question and follow the investigation while the business issue is still in focus. Figures and draft commentary carry into reports the finance professional can review and edit, with the same financial presentation throughout.
Our FP&A case study shows these benefits in a worked review on the same Databricks data. Across five financial requests, Précis completed its responses in 16–35 seconds, compared with 73–108 seconds for Genie in that session. The captured outputs also show why consistent financial definitions and presentation matter as an investigation develops.
A revenue breakdown with actuals, budget, variance and prior-year comparisons, retrieved through Précis on Databricks. NovaTech sample data.
Put agreed changes back into the plan
The full Précis platform also supports planning writeback to Databricks. Finance can create a variant of an existing plan, revise selected assumptions and compare the resulting scenario with actuals and budget.
For example, after investigating a revenue gap, the team can test a revised revenue or cost assumption in a working scenario. Précis previews the proposed changes for confirmation, saves approved changes in Databricks and retains their authorship and change history. The team can then review the revised position against the same financial definitions used in its reports.
Customer actuals remain read-only to Précis. Planning changes follow the platform’s permissions, scenario locks and confirmation steps. The finance professional owns the assumptions and authorises what is written.
The same reporting engine in Précis Finance MCP 0.4.0
Teams using a compatible MCP client can access Databricks reporting through Précis Finance MCP 0.4.0. It serves governed metrics, financial statements, scenario comparisons and drill-downs from the same reporting engine used by the full platform. The agent requests a financial operation and its parameters; Précis applies the configured calculation and reporting structure.
Finance MCP is self-hosted and source-available. Its financial tools remain read-only; planning writeback is available in the full Précis platform.
The release also adds conversion of exported financial reports to live Excel formulas. Open a Précis export in Excel, select the report region and convert it through the add-in. Its figures and reporting context can then be refreshed from Précis as the team continues working in the workbook.
